This Can’t Be It

This Can’t Be It is an experimental comedy show about the impossible task of being alive.

Neurodivergent artist Lawrence Dodd invites you into a world where clarity is always out of reach and meaning slips through your fingers. Drawing on the unpredictability of performance art, the openness of contemporary clowning, and the fractured textures of his time in experimental band Housewives, Lawrence creates a space where big ideas are constantly interrupted—by distractions, tangents, and the chaos of the present.

Contradictory characters flicker between earnest and absurd, sincere and surreal, reflecting the overwhelm of trying to pin down what matters in a world that never stands still. Beneath it all is a desperate longing for connection and understanding—a search for depth in a culture that keeps us skimming the surface.

This Can’t Be It is a feverish, boundary-pushing journey through the confusion, contradiction, and the comedy found in never quite knowing what it all means.
