The Poem Called Kavita

"The Poem Called Kavita" is the debut solo show from award-winning spoken word artist Kavita Hansla - a poet whose name literally means 'poetry' in Hindi. This is more than just a performance. It’s an honest, moving mix of storytelling, poetry, and raw emotion - where laughter meets stillness, and the personal becomes universal.

With over 100 performances under her belt and a reputation for leaving audiences stunned - whether with roaring laughter or pin-drop silences - Kavita’s voice is as unforgettable as the stories she tells. She has performed at Wandsworth Arts Fringe, Generation Hackney, and Rich Mix’s iconic Jawdance, lighting up every stage she steps onto. With recent headline sets at the Bush Theatre and London’s Dare to Speak, her momentum is unmistakable. The Poem Called Kavita is where it all comes together.

This 50-minute show isn’t a loose collection of poems, but a tightly woven journey - built from pieces that have been tested, refined, and brought to life in front of real audiences. Some poems chart the journey of coming into her own - through moments of joy, growth, and discovery. From growing up in a traditional Indian household to navigating life, cultural expectations and identity, to finding her voice as a poet and performer, Kavita invites audiences into the spaces where she has learned, unlearned, and dared to become.

Kavita is a proud British-Asian woman, a scientist, a storyteller, and a poet - with a magnetic voice and an undeniable stage presence. Her performances have earned her standing ovations, encore bookings, and the title of Best Poet and Spoken Word Artist 2025 from the Mainstream UK Awards, where she was also named one of their Ones to Watch.

Expect moments that leave the room breathless - with sharp wit, tender honesty, and emotional clarity. This is poetry that doesn’t sit quietly. It moves. It laughs. It lands.

If you love poetry that punches through - that makes you laugh, ache, and question - this is the show for you.
