Spoken word behemoth Fat Roland mixes deadpan comedy and surreal stories with wonderfully odd illustrations. Imagine Johnny Vegas devouring Stewart Lee. On a depressed rollercoaster. Driven by a buffalo.

Fats runs Bad Language in Manchester (best UK spoken word night, Saboteur Awards 2015) and is a columnist for Electronic Sound. This mini-show to support his new podcast ‘Hey Fat Roland’ (which he’ll probably forget to mention) is a follow-up to his debut fringe show ‘Kraftwerk Badger Spaceship’, which Broadway Baby called “often hilarious... superbly executed... a seriously excellent piece of music-based comedy.”

Some reviews of Fat Roland’s previous show:

“Superb audience interaction twinned with some excellent improvisation work... a must-see for any fan of music.” Broadway Baby
“Easily one of the top ten Edinburgh comedy shows I’ve seen.” Audience review
“Bizarre, astounding, hilarious and truly unlike anyone else.” Dominic Berry, poet
“An hour of delights and absurdities. Masterfully crafted and utterly compelling.” Audience review
“Fat Roland at the Edinburgh Fringe is like hot elephant soup after being chased by a rabid Sean Ryder.” Audience review
“It’s funny, it’s surreal, it’s really quite moving at times.” Audience review
“Fat Roland’s deadpan inanity twinned with the often hilarious additions of sketches held up on cardboard is superbly executed.” Broadway Baby
“Hilarious, clever, sweet and the best cartoons you’ll see all festival.” Audience review
“Fat Roland uses series of comic illustrations to tell jokes about music. His topic and style are particular and a section of the audience found them really amusing.” The Reviews Hub
“For fans of Harry Hill, Stewart Lee and that video of the shovel that sounds like Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Zach Roddis, ex-poet
