One of the longest serving free venues in Edinburgh, since 2006, Southside Social (AKA The Meadow Bar) is back after two years break and a change of ownership. It's a popular city centre and community bar with an intimate upstairs performance space, well loved by performers. The venue is close to all southside/Teviot venues.

news3.jpg (12779 bytes)Southside Social used to be called the Meadow Bar, and is one of our oldest venues in operation since 2006. It has been closed for years after a succession of owners, and has now re-opened as the Southside social, a charity helping young people into work in the hospitality industry.

Although it has been completely refurbished, the new venue retains the feel of the old meadow bar, and the performance space will be nearly exactly the same as before.

Situated on Buccleuch Street, a busy road in the Southside area of Edinburgh, this venue is located in the heart of the area of Edinburgh most associated with the Fringe, and is close to the Counting House and Pear Tree, BBC, The Gilded Balloon, Udderbelly,  Assembly George Square and the Pleasance Dome.

The main bar is a comfortable, modern bar, situated on the ground floor of the venue, which serves food, including main meals and snacks, along with a full range of beers, wines and spirits. There is also free wifi available, and it has always been a performers favourite.

The Performance space is located in the First Floor bar, up a single staircase. It is suited, and aimed at stand-up comedy performance, however it is possible for small-scale theatre or drama in the afternoon slots. Slots are available from lunchtime to 3am.

Performance Space: Upstairs

Bar - The bar in the room is closed during performances.

Ladies Toilet - The venues ladies toilet is located at the back of the room. In previous years this has not caused any issues, as people will quietly tip toe through the room to use it.  However if your show requires no interruptions, this is not the venue for you.
